Schools of the Future
This article was very interesting. It's somewhat unrealistic, but still very interesting. Self discovery is very important and a great thing to achieve. However, I'm not so sure that it is something that can be taught. I think that people can be guided in self-discovery but not exactly taught it. Some ways to help students discover themselves is to give intrapersonal assignments and give them assignments in which the need to use critical thinking skills. I also believe that challenging students to debate or to really develop an opinion or belief about a specific topic or issue helps them to discover themselves. Okri's idea is very interesting and does bring up a good point about truly understanding yourself and the root of why things happen sometimes. Self-discovery will probably never be bale to be taught, but teachers can challenge there students to try to discover themselves.

Heather,
I agree with you on a couple of points, I think that Okri's has his head in the clouds while the rest of us live in the real world. His ideas are very unrealistic. I also think that you make a good point that by giving students interpersonal assignment which require them to use critical thinking skills is about as close as your going to get to teaching self discovery.
