Michael Moore
My first reaction when I started reading this article by Michael Moore was to be very defensive. I feel that he discussed very serious information about African-Americans but I was too busy being defensive to truly take it in. I think he would be much more effective if he presented the information in a better way. I found myself trying to justify the reasons why all the terrible things were done by white men, thinking that terrorist aren't always white, and that there are many crimes committed by African-Americans. Even though I knew many of the things he was saying were disturbing and valid, the beginning of the article had me in the wrong mind frame to accept them. I thought the part about which races commit different crimes was interesting. I have a friend who is a cop who actually said something very similar once. He told me where he works, it seems that Black people have a reason for the crimes they commit generally. The reason may be payback, or stealing for survival, or other reasons. He said the more messed up crimes like serial killers and child molesters are generally white males. I also think that there are different types of black people just like there are different types of white people and he didn't even address that. There are black people who are successful and make good money and are treated well because they treat others well. At the same time here are black people on well fare who don't attempt to find work and there are black people who don't achieve success because they drop out of school and sell drugs instead. Obviously, any ethnicity is going to have a variety of people comprising it. No group of people will ever be perfect.
