My Experience with ELL students
My experience with ELL students is for the most part nonexistent. I am doing my junior preprofessional internship at Rahway Middle School in a sixth grade English class and most of the ELL students have "graduated" from the ESL program. Though there are students in my class whose first language is not English they write and read at grade level or higher. But I did learn at a meeting of the sixth grade English teachers and the fifth grade Language Arts teachers in Rahway that in preschools there are programs that have students in a classroom where Spanish is only spoken and a classroom where English is only spoken and they switch every two weeks. I thought this was very interesting because the students are learning two languages at the same time at a very early age. I also believe it helps take away the lable of ELL since Spanish speaking students have the opportunity to be taught in Spanish. And I think it is great to get children at a young age learning two languages and cultures.

Rebecca, I feel the same way as you in regards to my experience working with ell students to be non-existing. I have been working with special needs children for the past 4 yrs. My school doesn't place special needs and ell learners together. The only experience I have is through my friend who is an esl teacher.
