Today was the first day of my Junior Field experience. I had previously met with my cooperating teacher some time last week so that I could know what to expect and how my day would operate. I strolled in at 7:15am, bright and early, and I found that I had my own sign-in spot along with the rest of the teachers. It was my first time feeling extremely welcomed in a school. The school I will be in for the next three weeks has only 150 students and it only houses (as they refer to it in the city I am doing my field work in) 9th graders. This also means that there are only about 7-8 teachers in the building and most of the time the teachers are travelling back and forth between buildings (they actually have to get into their cars and drive for a few blocks and past several traffic lights to reach the other buildings). Luckily, I got placed in a school with Gifted and Talented students that really do show a high level of excitement when learning new things. What is even more impressionable is that these students have really high future long-term goals. It was extremely encouraging!
Three of my classes today took an exam on the book that they finished reading, Things Fall Apart, and tomorrow we will begin the play "A Dolls House" with them. My cooperating teacher and I are a little concerned about the receptivity that we will receive from the students concerning the book, therefore it should be an interesting three weeks. The other two classes were not related to English, a Philosophy class and a Bible Studies class, however I still learned a lot about those students. Especially since most of them are also in my English classes. I can only hope that the next few weeks can go well and run smoothly.

I think it is really interesting that you get to work with the gifted and talented students. As a future teacher,it is definitely encouraging to see students working at such high levels of achievement.
